About Us

The Allegany Soil Conservation District serves one of three mountainous counties in Western Maryland. The narrow mountain ridges, separated by steep valleys, present unique challenges for controlling runoff and erosion. The Allegany SCD addresses two major program areas - agriculture and urban development.

Manure Happens.jpg

It's a fact of life on the farm...

Centuries ago farmers realized this plentiful resource makes a great natural fertilizer and soil conditioner.  Today, farmers still use manure to grow their crops while using the latest environmental practices to protect water quality.
